'A Diversion' is the first DVD from Something for Kate. Rather than just presenting a polite collection of videos and a few performances, 'A Diversion' is a thorough and unique document of the two-year period in which Something for Kate wrote, recorded and toured their third album, "Echolalia".
'A Diversion' contains more than 25 live songs from 5 different performances, (some of which have never been seen before), plus more than 100 photos, 10 video clips and a behind the scenes look at the creation of those videos. It also includes a 30 minute film titled 'Holding Pattern', which gives the ultimate insight into the atmosphere and ethos of Something for Kate. Created from over 70 hours of raw footage spanning those two years, 'Holding Pattern' is an abstracted view of the band set to a soundtrack written exclusively for the film by Paul Dempsey.
Of the film 'Holding Pattern' Paul Dempsey comments: "It is someone else's perspective on following us around for the last two years ... and an attempt to demystify what actually goes on during these processes of making and touring an album". Adds bassist Stephanie Ashworth: "We wanted to show some of the realities rather than perpetuate the myths involved with recording and touring as a band ... to show some of the stranger moments over the ones that people assume it's all about."
